The award is open to UK hotels, pubs, restaurants, foodservice contracts and other hospitality operations that provide equal customer services to all customers. The winner must demonstrate that they meet or exceed the requirements of the Equality Act.

The Cateys are the highest official awards for UK businesses, established by Royal warrant in 1965.

The awards are held in partnership with P&O Cruises and are judged by a panel of industry peers.
